2020 Vision: How to Prepare for the New Decade

It’s beginning to get closer and closer to the last coupe of weeks of this decade—you may be focused on what this new decade will bring about—goals, habits, achievements, whatever it may be, it’s coming sooner than you think and it’s time to prepare. But there is a load more.

Discovermagazine.com recon: “By the year 2020, for example, you will need to know how to talk to your house. Today your home contains dozens of appliances, each working independently. But someday you'll cross the threshold and everything will know you're home. The lights will flicker on, the air conditioner will have kicked in, the refrigerator will clamor to enumerate all the meals you can assemble with the groceries cached inside. In exchange for this convenience, you'll share your abode with a horde of circuit-heavy infants that constantly burble to each other and cry out for your care. If you're the one with mechanical flair at your house, when you come through the door at night, your spouse will be pulling you aside to whisper, "Honey, I need you to talk to the robot." 

Think back on what this last decade has invented in medical, scientific and technological fields. Now double that, at least. Us Sixty year olds are going to have to develop an open mind and start learning, not from what we know, but from scratch!

Doing a few things to help mentally prepare yourself for this new decade will help you get off to a good start and clean slate! So below we’re giving you a few tips to incorporate into mentally preparing for the new decade and kicking a** while doing it!

Allow Your Mind to Accept Change

A new decade is on the horizon—allowing your mind to accept the things that are new and changing will help you embrace this new decade with great ease. Going into the new year without allowing your mind to accept any changes that may have occurred in the current year will not make your transition smooth or even exciting. Learning to “accept the things you cannot change” and having the courage to embrace those changes will make all the difference in the new decade to come.

Be Open to Experiencing New and Unconventional Things

New and unconventional things can be exciting for anyone to experience. Whether that’s stepping outside of your comfort zone and visiting a country you would’ve never imagined visiting, or crossing a goal off of your bucket list such as skydiving—whatever it may be, bring those new and exciting experiences into this new decade.

Be at Peace with What Was and What Is

Go with the flow of learning how to embrace what was and what is. In 2020 we’re having nothing but a clear vision of the present. You have to allow your mind to be at peace with what occurred in the past and what can no longer be changed because it is now in the past, simply move forward—no strings attached.“What was is no longer what is.”

Create a List of Your Accomplishments

Before moving forward into this new decade, make sure you learn to appreciate all that you’ve accomplished this current year. Create a list of all of your accomplishments that took place in 2019, and give yourself a pat on the back because you did that! No matter how big or small that accomplishment may be, it deserves to be celebrated.

Create a List of Life Lessons You’ve Learned Thus Far

One of the best ways to prepare for this new decade is to create a list of lessons that you’ve learned thus far. Think back on the past year and reflect on all the valuable insight and information you’ve learned that has helped you push forward to reach the current point that you are at. Take a look at your calendar or social media to help you refresh your memory. Keep in mind that you can make anything you want of this new decade that is quickly approach—just make sure it serves you, and you embrace it to its fullest potential!
